How the Season Works:

Each FLL season is centered around a real-world theme (like energy, transportation, or health). Teams participate in three main areas:

  1. Innovation Project – Research a real-world problem and design a creative solution.

  2. Robot Game – Design, build, and program a LEGO robot to complete missions on a themed game field.

  3. Core Values – Practice teamwork, inclusion, and having fun!

At the end of the season, teams present their work at a qualifying tournament, where they’re judged on their project, robot performance, engineering design, and teamwork. After qualifying they have opportunities to advance to regional, national, or even international championships.

Why Join FLL?

FLL is a great way for students to:

  • Get hands-on experience with robotics and coding

  • Learn critical thinking, collaboration, and public speaking

  • Explore real-world problems in a creative way

  • Build confidence and have fun in a team environment

  • Prepare for future STEM opportunities—like FTC!

Many members of our FTC team got their start in FLL, and we love helping younger students start their own robotics journey.

How Our FTC Team Supports FLL:

As an FTC team, we mentor local FLL Challenge teams by:

  • Hosting build and programming workshops

  • Providing technical guidance and feedback

  • Helping teams prepare for judging and competitions

  • Encouraging Core Values and teamwork

  • Sharing our own experiences to inspire younger students

Mentoring FLL teams is part of our mission to give back to the FIRST community and grow the next generation of innovators.

What is FIRST Lego League?

FIRST LEGO League (FLL) is a global STEM program that introduces young students to science, technology, engineering, and math using hands-on challenges and LEGO robotics. Each season, teams explore a real-world theme, build and program autonomous LEGO robots, and develop creative solutions to real-world problems—all while practicing teamwork and having fun.

FLL is often a student’s first step into robotics and innovation, and it builds the foundation for future participation in programs like FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) and FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC).

Who is it for?

FIRST LEGO League is split into three divisions based on age and grade level:

  • Discover (Ages 4–6): Playful learning through basic LEGO Duplo builds and storytelling.

  • Explore (Ages 6–10): Simple motorized models and research-based projects.

  • Challenge (Ages 9–16): Full competition experience with LEGO robot missions and real-world Innovation Projects.

Our FTC team mentors teams in the FLL Challenge and Explore division, which is designed for students ready to tackle coding, problem-solving, and presenting ideas to real judges.
